What're the chances my mom will lose the use of her arm during her rotator cuff surgery recovery?
My mom had surgery to repair her left rotator cuff. She tore it walking on her hands followed by manual labor for seven months or so. When the surgeon went in to fix it, he found more than just a tear. From what he explained to me and what I understand, her rotator cuff was pushed forward out of place. There were torn ligaments, just barely hanging onto her rotator cuff and her bicep was just hanging on too.
She had the surgery on Friday and it is now Thursday evening of the next week.
Tonight, she's complaining more than usual about how uncomfortable her sling is, no matter how I adjust it. Her meds aren't helping her, only ice on her shoulder and arm. She thinks she'll lose the use of her arm.
I've assured her that I will call the doctor's office first thing in the morning to see if we should be concerned and if she needs to be brought in. Her appointment isn't set until the 20th.
Her pain tolerance is very high. She's had many surgeries before and lives with pain on a daily basis from her lungs and from abdominal scar tissue.
How worried should I be? I've got to have an idea right now and I don't have the patience to go through web searches.
Thanks for anyone's information.
she's feeling a tingling sensation in her arm. i asked her "like its falling asleep?" and she said yeah.
it just seems like her meds should get her out of pain and at the most she should feel discomfort, but they aren't.
is there anything i can do right now to help relieve it some so that she can get some sleep until i can call the doctor in the morning?
should i take her to the emergency room so she can see someone right now?
if you would email me, catlover, that would be super fantastic. just to give me some advice. thanks so much.

rotator cuff surgery exercises?
i had a small tear repaired and a bone spur removed from my shoulder rotator cuff. It's been 9 days since the surgery. I have a question about a movement. There are a few exercises i am supposed to do. I've been doing them except for one that i just found out about. I'm able to do the up and down stretches where you place the arm on the table in front of you and you slide up and down to stretch the arm. I have no problem and can stretch until the arm is really high up. This other exercise where you stand by a doorway and place your hand on the edge and turn you body away from the bad arm with your elbows close to your body is where I'm having a lot of stiffness and can barley turn my body. It aches after for a long long time. I just started doing these and have been in tears because I feel like i started too late and now its stiff. can anyone tell me if this is normal or did i start this exercise too late? I can hardly turn my body...it extremely stiff.

Have pneumonia, dr. note says stay home in bed 1 week, work won't let me.?
I was diagnosed with pneumonia a few days ago. My doctor said it was very serious and put me on an antibiotic and Prednisone. He immediately faxed my boss a note explaining that I am not able to work for one week. My boss is refusing to let me miss any work. He said I cannot take any days off, and if I do, I will get a written warning for dismisal. I was off work from approximately March 2010 to the end of April 2010 for rotator cuff surgery....which was by the way, a work comp injury. They have been punishing me every since! Is there any sort of law to help me. I am really, really sick; and I'm just afraid it's going to get worse. Need help.

Had rotator cuff surgery and can't do a stretch HELP!!?
I had a bone spur removed and a small 90% tear repaired on my rotator cuff about 4 weeks ago. I've been going to physical therapy and when I do my stretches it pinches and hurts a lot on the inside (towards the chest) of my shoulder joint though. Is this normal? I still feel sharp pains when I'm stretching in different ways during my exercises. One exercise that really worries me is the hands behind the back exercise. I can't move my hands up my back without my injured shoulder moving up. I keep trying to keep my shoulder down when doing this stretch, but it keeps coming up and I hunch over...it's extremely painful and difficult to do. When I keep my shoulders down and just bring my hand together I can feel the pain and stiffness without even bringing my hands up my back. Is this normal after 4 weeks? Also is there a website that shows where you should be and what stretches should not hurt by certain time frames of physical therapy? I want to know if I'm on track or if there is a problem. I've been really upset about this.

I am currently collecting unemployment and looking for work, everything I know how to do is physical in nature, but now after having an MRI I found out that I may be getting a new rotator cuff (surgery) and could be 6 months to a year healing ! Unemployment runs out for me in mid Dec., but if I can't work I won't qualify anyway. Is there temporary disability ? or should I try to get on disability from SS ? HELP !
